The trend indicator refers to the development of political as well as economic transformation. If the difference in score between the BTI 2008 and BTI 2010 is at least 0.5, an improvement or deterioration is indicated. If the difference is 1.0 or greater, this is noted as major change.

 




Status Index

The Status Index's overall result represents the mean value of the scores for the dimensions "Political Transformation" and "Economic Transformation". The mean value was calculated using the exact, unrounded values for both these dimensions, which, in turn, were derived from the ratings for the five political criteria (based on 18 indicators) and the seven economic criteria (based on 14 indicators).




Political Transformation

The score for "Political Transformation" is obtained by calculating the mean value of the ratings for the following criteria:

  • Stateness
  • Political Participation
  • Rule of Law
  • Stability of Democratic Institutions
  • Political and Social Integration




Economic Transformation

The score for "Economic Transformation" is obtained by calculating the mean value of the ratings for the following criteria:

  • Level of Socioeconomic Development
  • Organization of the Market and Competition
  • Currency and Price Stability
  • Private Property
  • Welfare Regime
  • Economic Performance
  • Sustainability
